Who is the Bicycl Featured Rider?
The Bicycl Featured Rider could be a friend, a stranger you often meet during your cycling session or maybe even a professional cyclist. They share Bicycl's passion for cycling. To them, nothing else is as fun as riding on two wheels.
Do you know of anyone whom we should interview? Reach out.
Name: Justin Lam
Lives: Los Angeles, CA, USA
Dream Bike: What I have now - the Trek Emonda SL6. It's nice and light, and didn't burn a hole in my bank account. Super fancy high-end bikes may be fun, but ultimately, performance comes from you and not the bike!
Best Hill Climb: Mt. Baldy Ski Lifts via Glendora Mountain Road. This is a legendary local climb frequently used in the Tour of California and the final section features a series of ramps and switchbacks that just get steeper and steeper.
My current cycling goal is... to get better on descents.
What's your ultimate cycling challenge: It wasn't entirely cycling, but Ironman Copenhagen was probably the biggest event I've done. As a little climber, the mostly flat course with cobbled sections and strong headwinds was really tough, and having to run a marathon after that was no fun!
How did your love for bikes came about: A friend who has been into road cycling for years convinced me to try it with him. He lent me an old steel Peugeot and I was hooked. That Peugeot has been the gateway drug for many in our riding group as he keeps lending it to friends who want to try cycling.
Share a cycling memory: I can't share just one! My favorite part about cycling is going on overseas trips and I've now done bike tours in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Taiwan. On all of these trips, I've met amazing people and really experienced those places in a way you can't in a bus or car.
I love to ride because... It's a great way to explore places I ordinarily would see, both near my home and around the world.
Thank you for sharing your fantastic story Justin! We hope you will get better in your descents and when you do, you must share tips with all of us :-)
Stay tuned for next weeks' Featured Rider!
